Royal Windsor Horse Show Show Jumping Qualifier - Sunday 11 March

Catherine Freeman on behalf of WSRC organised the Area 12 show jumping qualifier for RWHS on Sunday 11 March at the Conquest Equestrian Centre. A full day of show jumping took placeat Conquest that day although the RWHS qualifier only occupied the morning. The riders all from Area 12 clubs were competing for a place in either the Junior or the Senior Area 12 team to go forward to the final round of the Topscore competition at the RWHS. Despite strong competition from Taunton & District RC and others the two WSRC riders prevailed with Esther Freeman riding Bonny Balou gaining a place in the Senior Intermediate team and Lorna White riding Wentward Royal Chant gaining a place in the Junior Novice Team. Congratulations to both of them, and good luck for Royal Windsor.

Inter branch Rising Stars team show jumping at Conquest on 26th October 2011

“Rising Stars” Shine at Show Jumping

The Conquest Equestrian Centr near Taunton was the venue for the inaugural Inter Club Rising Stars Indoor Team Show Jumping Competition hosted by West Somerset Riding Club on 26th October 2011. Area 12 clubs put forward eighteen teams and competition in the Introductory and Pre Novice classes was very keen. Course builder Helene Hewitt designed encouraging yet challenging courses to produced an exciting finish in both.
In the Introductory class four teams (BMRC Juniors, Blackdown Hills Juniors, BMRC Mixtures and WSRC Burgundy ) were on zero faults at the end of round 1. As round 2 progressed tension mounted as three teams (Blackdown Hills Juniors, Shipton Strollers and BMRC Mixtures) completed on a total of four faults which meant that WSRC Burgundy , the last team to go, had to produce a zero score to win. The three four fault teams already tacked up and prepared for a jump off , watched with baited breath as WSRC Burgundy began their second round. The first rider to go knocked down a pole , so the pressure was on the remaining three to go clear to win the competition. With two clears in the bag , the final WSRC Burgundy entered the arena and to the delight of the team returned a zero score to win the class and the coveted sashes.

In the Pre Novice class three teams ( WSRC Green, Blackdown Hills Juniors and BMRC Mixtures) were on zero faults at the end of round 1. Clear rounds were thinner on the ground in round 2 and resulted in a tie ,on a team total of 4 faults , between Blackdown Hills Juniors and BMRC Mixtures which forced a timed jump off over a shortened course. When the first 3 riders from each team had finished their rounds the teams totals were equal at 4 faults. As the final rider from the BMRC Mixtures achieved a clear round the pressure was really on the last Blackdown Hills Junior rider to produce a very fast clear to secure victory for the team. Despite a great effort one pole fell , which meant BMRC Mixtures were the winners of the “champion” sashes.

A big THANKYOU to everyone who helped make the day a success - in particular course builder Helene Hewitt, the Conquest Centre staff and volunteers for stewarding, organising parking etc and providing really yummy refreshments ( Annabelle’s bacon and egg rolls are worth recommending!) and WSRC members Gemma Heymer, Genevieve Burns and Issy Burns, without whose help the day would not have run so smoothly!

AREA 12 SUMMER SHOW JUMPING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Area show jumping championships were held at Pontispool Farm on July 2nd. WSRC fielded a senior novice team and Nicola Gostling and Ten Tors competed as an individual in the Senior Intermediate Show Jumping. The Senior Novice Show Jumping Team was 4th in the National Qualifier and 6th in the Area 12 Championship. Lorna White (Lou-lou) qualified at Conquest for Round 2 of the competition. They jumped well at Badgworth (Round 2) but were not in the ribbons.

AREA 12 WINTER NOVICE SHOW JUMPING 2011

Penny Hurley, Sarah Thresher, Hazel Grundy and Esther Freeman (Red Team) and Lucie Allison, Michelle Holroyd, Christina Hunt and Carly Willis (Green Team) represented WSRC at the NAF Winter Novice Indoor SJ Qualifier at Badgworth on 5th February. Twenty two Senior Teams came forward to compete and our Red Team were in contention for a place at the end of the first round but a couple of "unlucky" poles in the second round meant that they finished out of the ribbons. The first round didn't go as well for the Green Team, and despite a much improved team score in round two, they were unable to move up the placings.

AREA 12 SUMMER SHOW JUMPING CHAMPIONSHIPS - REPORT

In the 2010 Area 12 summer championships at Taunton Racecourse our team of Sarah Thresher, Nicola Moon, Maggie Wilson and Lucy Coppin came a creditable 4th over a tough course. Of the three scores to count, Maggie had a clear round in the first round and 4 faults in the second, Sarah had 4 faults in each round and Lucy had 8 faults in each round for a team total of 28 faults. Nicola unfortunately did not complete the second round as her horse was slipping on the grass.
