Something different for 2010

The Gymkhana evening planned for June has been postponed, in order to have more time to organise a decent event.

Eleven pairs of riders (and one rider paired with a very fit runner) set off from Court Farm at Exford (courtesy of Colin and Beth Horstmann) on the 14 mile hunt for treasure. They had to find their way across moorland and along bridleways and some quiet country lanes, solving clues as they went. This they managed with varying degrees of success enabling them to have a share of the ‘treasure’ at the finish.
First home and with the highest score (so got the most treasure) were Chris Smyth and Annette Berry, in just under three hours. Last home (in fact we sent out the search party to look for them) were Karen Woodfield and Paula Richards who spent almost five and a half hours riding, and still came home smiling! Well done to them.
WSRC member Lucie Allison and her daughter Georgie, who was the youngest competitor, recorded the second fastest time of the day. Other WSRC members taking part were Kate McKenzie, Daphne Wilbraham, Michelle Holroyd, Zoe Holroyd, Angie Coleman, Denise Latreille and Pat Young (accompanied by her partner running!).

The sun didn’t exactly shine, but the weather was dry(ish) and warm(ish) and Beth’s cream teas back at the venue were a welcome addition to this annual event.

The Treasure Hunt is organised by Barbara Wigley and proceeds are shared between West Somerset Riding Club and the Wessex Endurance GB group.
