FUN RIDE 19TH May 2010
Eight people set off from Ralegh's Cross for a 9 mile ride circular route on a sunny early summer evening, down towards Roadwater, along the Mineral Line and back up the Incline to Brendon Hill, and finally across fields to return to Ralegh's Cross. The group comprised WSRC members Ann Farley, Jo Giblett, Anne Hand, Rachel Hill, Daphne Wilbraham and Zoe Willford, along with friends of Ann and Jo. The first fields provided an opportunity for high jinks on behalf of Rachel and Jo's horses but they all settled down afterwards to hack down the tracks to Sticklepath and then down through the woods to Pitt Farm on the Mineral Line. There then followed a puff up through the bluebell woods to Leigh Barton and a nice run along to the waterfall in Western Cliff Woods, before the half mile 1 in 4 bridleway up the Incline. Jo's Fireman set a cracking pace up the track, but Bugsy (Anne), McBain (Rachel) and Daphne's mare raced all the way to the top to take a much needed breather before the others arrived at a more sensible pace. The ride then followed the pretty grass track round Brendon Hill House to cross the main road to Brown Lane and loop round to Ralegh's Cross on tracks and fields. Well earned pints were obtained from the pub, who had kindly let us park in their back carpark.

REPORT: Mounted Treasure Hunt 16th August 2009
 |
| Chris Smyth and Annette Berry, winners of 2009 mounted Treasure Hunt |

| WSRC member Lucie Allison and her daughter Georgie, the youngest competitor. |
Eleven pairs of riders (and one rider paired with a very fit runner) set off from Court Farm at Exford (courtesy of Colin and Beth Horstmann) on the 14 mile hunt for treasure. They had to find their way across moorland and along bridleways and some quiet country lanes, solving clues as they went. This they managed with varying degrees of success enabling them to have a share of the ‘treasure’ at the finish.
First home and with the highest score (so got the most treasure) were Chris Smyth and Annette Berry, in just under three hours. Last home (in fact we sent out the search party to look for them) were Karen Woodfield and Paula Richards who spent almost five and a half hours riding, and still came home smiling! Well done to them.
WSRC member Lucie Allison and her daughter Georgie, who was the youngest competitor, recorded the second fastest time of the day. Other WSRC members taking part were Kate McKenzie, Daphne Wilbraham, Michelle Holroyd, Zoe Holroyd, Angie Coleman, Denise Latreille and Pat Young (accompanied by her partner running!).
The sun didn’t exactly shine, but the weather was dry(ish) and warm(ish) and Beth’s cream teas back at the venue were a welcome addition to this annual event.
The Treasure Hunt is organised by Barbara Wigley and proceeds are shared between West Somerset Riding Club and the Wessex Endurance GB group.
