Cross Country
In the spring and autumn numerous hunter trials take place as well as a variety of sponsored rides often with optional jumps. Treborough Hill Cross Country course runs several such events, and there is an annual hunter trial in August on the edge of Dunkery at Cloutsham. Just outside our immediate area Stockland Lovell and Pontispool host several cross country events for local clubs, hunts and Pony Clubs as well as running their own events.

British Riding Clubs run the Festival of the Hunter competition in May for which qualifying events are held in the various BRC areas. Area 12 ran a qualifier for 2011 in October 2010. The Area 12 qualifier for the 2012 final will be in October 2011. This competition is combined show jumping and cross country. The old style hunter trial competition is currently only being run in the northern regions. The BHS runs a cross country championship at Eland Lodge in Derbyshire in September, with qualifiers at hunter trials and cross country events around the country throughout the preceding year. Details are given on the BHS website
