British Riding Clubs Area 12
The British Riding Club movement is divided up into geographical areas; we are one of 31 clubs in Area 12 which covers West Devon, Dorset, West Wiltshire, Somerset, Bristol and South Gloucestershire, and is the largest BRC area. Each area holds annual qualifying competitions in most disciplines and we aim to send representative teams to as many as possible. The top teams from each qualifing competition then go forward to the Riding Club National Championships.
In the winter there are national Winter Novice Indoor Show Jumping Championships and Winter Dressage Championships. Area 12 runs qualifiers for both these events.
In the summer there is the Festival of the Horse (for which Area hunter trials may be qualifiers), the BRC National Championships (area dressage and SJ qualifiers), and the BRC Horse Trials Championships area horse trials qualifiers). The DTM final is held in the autumn (at Aintree) and there is an area qualifier.

BRC is introducing a show jumping phase into the traditional hunter trial in order to produce a more clear cut result (because placings were hanging on milliseconds under the old scoring system). Some BRC areas, including Area 12, would prefer to maintain the traditonal hunter trial format and to use other ways of separating out the winners (e.g. compulsory hunting gates to open). It has been decided that the Area 12 hunter trial on Saturday 24 March will not incorporate a show jumping phase and will therefore be an Area 12 championship only, not a qualifier for the Festival of the Horse in June. The competition will be a traditional hunter trial with two courses and pairs classes for juniors and seniors. The venue is a BE course so the jumps will be very well made. There will be a 85 - 90 cm track (novice and pairs) and a 1m Open track.
Entries for the Area 12 championship will be made in the usual way through the team representative (Anne Hand). Please contact her as soon as possible to express your interest.

If you would like to qualify for the Festival of the Horse you can compete at another area competition which is running the correct format e.g the Area 17 qualifer at Fordingbridge in Hampshire on 18 April.

If you would like to take part in any of these competitions please get in touch with the appropriate contact person...we are always looking for more people to include. You don't have to enter as a qualifier for the finals, and there are often separate non-qualifying classes as well.
