Area 12 website

If you would like to take part in any of these competitions please get in touch with the appropriate contact person...we are always looking for more people to include. You don't have to enter as a qualifier for the finals, and there are often separate non-qualifying classes as well (at lower heights).

Flu vaccinations: It is the responsibility of the rider to make sure their horse's vaccination history fits in with the BRC rules before entering any qualifying class. BRC flu vaccination rules 2011

AREA 12 SENIOR NOVICE TEAM SJ QUALIFIER Saturday 18th Feb 2012 at The Hand Equestrian Centre ( Junction 20 M5)
If you are interested in being in a team for the above, can you please let me know ASAP ?
Ponies / horses may be BS registered BUT must not have any winnings or SJAI points. You should be confidently competing at 2ft 9 with decent spreads and fillers and have recent experience of indoor competition. If you have not previously competed at THE HAND there is unaffiliated SJ on 7th January 2012 and this would be a fantastic chance to "soak up the atmosphere ", familiarise yourself with the set up and try out round a 2ft9 course prior to the team competition.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Catherine Freeman ( WSRC Team Manager) Email Telephone 01398 371416

Flying the Flag at Taunton Horse Show

On Saturday 2nd July riders representing the Area 12 Riding Clubs gathered at Pontispool Farm for the Taunton Horse Show, a festival of dressage, show jumping and showing. West Somerset was well represented with Senior Novice show jumping, Senior Novice Dressage and Senior Open Dressage teams competing in qualifying competitions for the chance to compete at the National Championships as well as in the Area 12 Championships. We also had an individual competitor in the Intermediae Show Jumping competition. The riders were particularly fortunate to have the Club's Chief Trainer, Julie Langrish, on hand to advise and encourage and calm nerves. A big thank you to Julie for giving up her Saturday for the teams.

West Somerset came home with lots of ribbons, having punched well above their weight as one of the smallest Clubs in Area 12. No one came home without a team rosette and some won individual awards as well!

The Senior Novice Show Jumping Team ws 4th in the National Qualifier and 6th in the Area 12 Championship
Michelle Holroyd and Summerfold Whisper Who Dares were also individual Senior Novice Show Jumping Champions with a triple clear in a blisteringly fast time and have qualified for the Riding Clubs National Championships.

The Senior Novice Dressage Team was 2nd in the National Qualifier ( only one point behind the winners!) and 3rd in the Area 12 Championship. There were lots of individual dressage successes. In the Area Qualifiers, Gemma Heymer & Elmhurst Archie were 5th in their arena, Gwenda Bassett and Cullinghurst Miss Gainey were 3rd in their arena and Esther Freeman and Emerald Special were 2nd in their arena and have also qualified for theRiding Clubs National Championships as the highest placed individual, not part of the winning team.

The Senior Open Dressage Team was unfortunately reduced to three members due to a horse going lame at the last minute. Despite this the team finished a creditable 5th in the National Qualifier. There were also individual placings in the National Qualifier for Maggie Wilson and Intitnice 4th in their arena and Jenny Lo Vel and Bingo Little were 3rd in their arena in the National Qualifier and the Area 12 Championship.

A HUGE thankyou and well done to all who took part and many thanks to all the "support teams " on the day. Your Chef d'Equipe was very proud of you all!

WSRC Winter Dressage Divas

Eight members of the Club scrapped off the mud and smartened up their horses for the Area Dressage Championships at Pontispool last Sunday (20th). Esther Freeman (Annandale Seaspray) and Gwenda Bassett (Just Edmund) flew the West Somerset flag with a 5th place in the Prelim 18 Qualifier and a 6th place in Prelim 4 class, respectively. With very tough opposition in the Novice classes our teams did not feature in the ribbons. Lizzie Little (My Zelenksy) achieved the best Novice results with an 8th place out 18 in the Novice 30 class and an 11thplace out of 32 in the Novice 24 class.

Royal Windsor Dressage and Show Jumping 2nd Round

This Sunday (27th) Esther Freeman and Gwenda Bassett are off to tilt for Royal Windsor Horse Show dressage places at Badgworth. Lorna White is going for a chance to get to RWHS for junior show jumping. Good Luck to them

The British Riding Club movement is divided up into geographical areas; we are one of 31 clubs in Area 12 which covers West Devon, Dorset, West Wiltshire, Somerset, Bristol and South Gloucestershire, and is the largest BRC area. Each area holds annual qualifying competitions in most disciplines and we aim to send representative teams to as many as possible. The top teams from each qualifing competition then go forward to the Riding Club National Championships.

In 2012, the BRC areas in the south will be reorganised so that some of the clubs currently in the northern and eastern parts of Area 12 will move to adjacent areas. These changes do not affect WSRC, but Area 12 will become smaller and hopefully more cohesive.

In the winter there are national Winter Novice Indoor Show Jumping Championships and Winter Dressage Championships. Area 12 runs qualifiers for both these events.

In the summer there is the Festival of the Horse (for which Area hunter trials are qualifiers), the BRC National Championships (area dressage and SJ qualifiers), and the BRC Horse Trials Championships (area horse trials qualifiers). The DTM final is held in the autumn (at Aintree) and there is an area qualifier.
